I started out Sancho as a solo electronic project, by this, the third album, it had become a 7 piece live band and the album's sound reflects this.
I wanted to make a pop album, my version of Human League's Dare, if you will, and have lots of singing, lots of instrumentation, lots of different sounds and at the time I recorded it (2007) this was very much against the grain of stripped down post punk influenced music.
I wanted to make something that had a real ethos, that was playful and didn't wear its heart on its sleeve. I was obsessed with the wordplay of Eno and early Roxy Music and how you can make emotional sounding music that has nothing to do with "I love you baby", that tells stories. Each song is really a little film with a plot and a few twists.
By the time the album was finished, I had disbanded the band, but listening back on a whim recently I was surprised how good it is. Hence uploading it here...
